All about the "thinned" option for your corrective lenses

For the farsighted, the effects on their convex lenses

When you are farsighted, the thickness of your lenses is at the center of them. The more important the correction, the more you will be able to have a curved lens, creating an unsightly effect. To reduce it, it is possible to select the thinned option which will make your equipment aesthetic. The optical quality of the lenses will also be improved: the less the glass is thick and the more light that touches your lens will be transmitted to your eye. Its resistance will also be greater.

For nearsighted people and their concave lenses

For nearsighted, the thickness of the lenses is on the edges of them. The greater the correction, the more likely the lens will exceed the frame, which can create an unsightly effect. To reduce it, it is possible to select a thinned which will make your equipment aesthetic. The optical quality of the lens will also be improved.

Strong astigmatism

If you have a strong cylinder (see the article on how to decrypt your prescription), a thinned one improves the optical quality by reducing the thickness difference between the two powers present in the lens.

Nylor frames

If you flash on a nylor frame (strapping made with a wire under the lenses), know that the thinned is strongly recommended. You greatly increase the resistance of the glass. Be careful, this does not mean that the thin makes it insensitive to splinters or unbreakable, but just that the lens will already be stronger, thanks to a more resistant material.
